Ninety minutes of exercise every morning doesn’t even take the edge off. We come home and the first thing she does is pick up a toy and nose me with it for hours. I actually do have work to do and unfortunately playing with my dog doesn’t pay very well, so I have resorted to trying everything I can think of to tire her out – even if it means messing up my apartment and potentially teaching her bad habits.
The most popular activity we’ve come up with is “Chase the broom”. And I don’t mean just attack it while I’m sweeping like many dogs (and cats) do. We’ve taken it to a whole new level. I had to up the difficulty because Ella’s at a peak level of fitness. Her broom chasing regime involves doggie plyometrics…and my bed.
I can’t even honestly tell you that this tires her out much either, but it does cause her to break a pant and me to laugh at how ridiculous the whole scene is. I think I might put together a dog fitness DVD – I can’t guarantee that your dog will stay away from the broom when you actually need to clean, but he or she will have very firm haunches.
Enjoy.
